Romans 12:12... Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.

Today was my first day dealing with all of the insurance changes.  It wasn't too bad, but it wasn't a piece of cake, either. I have to switch all of my prescriptions from my current pharmacies to my new pharmacy under the Medicare plan. The phone call about my colitis drug from the specialty pharmacy went well and should transfer with no problems. My other medications, little more tricky.  I called the new pharmacy, and they said to contact the old pharmacy to have them switch all of the information.  When I called the old pharmacy, they said they couldn't do anything until the new pharmacy contacted them. So, back to the new pharmacy who contacted the old pharmacy... but they didn't answer, probably on lunch break. Hopefully I will hear from the new pharmacy tomorrow that everything has transferred. 

I had phone calls with a couple of other doctor offices today to set up an MRI (the tonsil thing) and an annual blood draw for my hematologist. Because of my colitis I have to check my iron levels and iron saturation on a semi-regular basis. I should be getting a phone call soon from the important blood test to schedule another visit with the traveling nurse. It's soon to be 3 months since the last test.  Hoping for that "0" again. 

Other important doctor appointments will be coming soon.  This month is the dermatologist visit. In February I meet with my radiation oncologist for the first time in 6 months and that will be followed in March with a visit with my surgical oncologist. There will be another CT and/or PET scan to prepare for those final two visits. Praying for lots of good news. 

The other big days coming up in the future are January 23 and January 30. January 23 will be the one-year anniversary of the dermatology visit that cut out my "cyst." January 30 will be the one-year anniversary of the phone call letting me know that I had cancer. I am so grateful to God with how everything worked out and that I am cancer free 12 months later. He has been so good to me.  He always is, but this year was special.

 Thursday February 20     Today was a rough day, which was sad because it had been a great week of church activities, family visits, and Cathy and me time.      The only issue during the week is that we still hadn't heard from the doctor about the PET scan or brain MRI getting approved by insurance. I checked in a couple of times, but no answers. I prayed every day for the approval to come through, but it never did.  I also gave the situation completely to God and told Him I trusted that whatever happened it was for the good.       That leads us to today.  Thursday July 24, 2025     The dermatologist appointment went well, nothing new to be concerned about. Tuesday I will be having the special blood test which will highlight if there are any markers or antibodies present to indicate a recurrence of the cancer. Prayers would be appreciated.      Monday, I had my hernia surgery.  It went well, but the process had a few hiccups. My surgery was originally scheduled for 11 AM, but Friday the hospital called and told me it was switched to 4:30 PM because of an emergency surgery the doctor was needed for in the morning. I arrived at the hospital at 2:30 and taken to pre-op around 3:30. We then learned the doctor was just getting out of surgery and had another one before mine. I finally was in the operating room before 7:30 PM. The surgery was over around 10 and at that hour, the doctor decided to keep me in the hospital overnight.   Thursday January 30, 2024               When your mother had cancer, your father had cancer, your brother had cancer, and you’ve been living the last 19 years with a medical condition that can lead to cancer, it’s not a great shock when you hear from your doctor that you have cancer. When you’ve also had numerous basal cell carcinomas and squamous cell carcinomas removed it’s not a surprise when it’s your dermatologist sharing the news. What was surprising was finding out that the cyst you had removed wasn’t a cyst but was a rare form of cancer called merkel cell carcinoma.             Merkel cell carcinoma only affects 4 people out of a million.
