April 14, 2026

I probably should have written this last Tuesday to recognize that it was the one-year anniversary of the beginning of my radiation treatments. Six weeks of driving to Irvine, Monday through Friday, lay on a table, and have a machine shoot two, 45 second zaps of radiation at my surgical site. I never felt anything, just heard the machine go "buzz." As I've shared, I didn't have any effects for most of the first five weeks, started feeling and seeing the effects during the final week and for about two weeks after. Two of the ladies we know that have been going through breast cancer treatments have both started their radiation treatments in the last week or so. I know they will find it easier than chemo, but they will still need prayers for what it does to the skin and our bodies.  As my radiation oncologist told me, "We are affecting that area down to the cellular level."

My extra colonoscopy was a breeze, one of the best recovery days I've ever had. No results yet. I did miss the Maundy Thursday communion service but was able to attend Good Friday services and Easter Sunday. They were both a true blessing. The church was packed, 700 more people that weekend than the weekend before. Hopefully what they heard will convince many of them to come back for more. After service we went to Spaghettini's for lunch with Cathy's mom, sister, and some friends from church.  It was little loud at first with music from the concert area but eventually quieted down.  They were slammed and incredibly busy, so it took a while to process our order and be served but it was an excellent meal.

I have shared before that I walk every morning and I made a commitment at the beginning of the year to listen to the scriptures during every way.  I finished the entire Bible last Thursday. So, if anyone is interested, listening to the Bible every day for about an hour and you can finish in about 100 days. I'm listening to other things through the end of April and then I'm going to start over May 1.

Psalm 119:105... Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.

2 Timothy 3:16-17... All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

Hebrews 4:12... For the word of God is alive and active.  Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.

Today I was back to the imaging department for another CT scan, this time checking for kidney stones. I've been thinking lately, we never know how much of our body having troubles are singular issues, and how many of them are related to other problems, the drugs we take and have taken, and the food we eat. The human body is an amazingly complex organism.  It's hard to fathom that people still think it all came together by chance. I prefer the watch argument.  If I find a watch with an incredible design and beyond belief technology I don't wonder how the pieces all came together to work in perfect harmony.  I wonder who the creator is.

Genesis 11:1... In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.

Psalm 139:14... I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.  Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well.
